OUR LIBRARY

This is the little library of our home. This is an amalgamation of my mom's books and magazines, my dad's Golf Digest mags, and my sister's, brother's and my pocketbooks, comics, textbooks and encyclopedias. And there are more books in those drawers and cabinets not to mention the ones in our rooms as well. I have spent many times staying here, either flipping through National Geographic or reading a short story. I love doing that, browsing through different books, looking at the wonderful photos, reading about amazing things. I suppose I have to give my mom credit for sparking my (and my sibling's) interest in reading.

When we were growing up, my parents never placed a tv in our rooms. I suppose this was a good thing because 1. we just chose some books from our library to read when we were bored, 2. we would watch tv in my parent's room and bond, and 3. we could focus on studying without distractions. When I was in college, I could go all day without tv. A book and a radio was all I needed. I never minded that I missed shows or was not up-to-date with the seasons or episodes of shows. I just took it all in stride. I want Nikki and Ethan to love to read. In an old post about books, I mentioned about my love for reading and how much I would want to have a library in my future home.

Reading has taught me so much. Not only has it improved my English a lot but it has also made me imaginative, creative and more appreciative of different reading materials. Already, I am so pleased when I see Nikki and Ethan reading the Dr. Seuss books my siblings and I used to own. I think it's great that another generation is making use of the books that I enjoyed so much in my childhood. Hopefully, when Nikki and Ethan grow up, they will be appreciative of this as well.
