MISSING THE KITCHEN

I miss cooking for Ruther. I really had fun cooking for my family when we were in Japan. In Manila, either my mother-in-law does the cooking or someone else does it for us. I sometimes cook when the boys ask for a particular food but it was not like when we were in Japan. I had to vary the food, had to choose which viands would be okay for Ruther and the boys, I had to research on some quick yummy meals, and of course, I enjoyed perfecting the taste - just the way my family likes it. The other day, Ruther was craving for some beef stew and I so love cooking that for him because 1. I already know how he likes the taste and 2. I like it when he really really finds the meal sumptuous. I admit, I only started cooking when I got married. I did some very light cooking before that, but really not much. My sister and I were really into baking, as my mom is right now. We would bake cookies and banana bread, brownies (our favorite!) and other pastries. So, it took me several tries to learn how to slice vegetables, how to season, how to control the fire, how to be mindful of the cooking time and how to cook vegetables just at the right moment so they won't come out soggy. Good thing I could easily follow a recipe book. I could still remember the first time I cooked rice (on the stove and not in a rice cooker because it was not working then) and I burned the whole thing!! It came out all black and hard and it took me forever to clean the pot! Of course I didn't want to leave evidence that I botched it up big time lying anywhere! I was so embarrassed that I told no one else except Ruther (of course now, everyone reading this knows as well =D). I'm glad as the years went by, my cooking has improved as well. Hopefully, I will get to cook for Ruther more often in later years...

I only wish Ruther enjoys eating the meals just as much as I enjoy cooking them for him...

hi mitzh!

na-influnece lang kami because mommy bakes a lot. i really do love her chocolate cake but it's too complicated for me. hehe. i like the easy to do yummies, especially now when i hate wasting ingredients and i get so disappointed when the pastry does not come out as it was meant to be. when we went to japan, i brought with me those oven toaster pre-mixes like brownie mix, chocolate cake mix and even yung bibingka and maja mix. okay naman but still quite different from the baked-from-scratch version.

try mo mag-bake! start ka sa simple ones. there are a lot of recipes in the 'net. =D enjoy rin e. kung madali lang magbake ng pan de sal, i would make that every morning in japan! hahaha! =D

take care! mwah!

I don't cook very often because we usually end up eating out most of the time, but when I do it's very clear that I'm in the early stages. I can never get everything to be ready at the same time...something always takes MUCH longer than everything else. That is one reason we eat out...I don't want to try to cook something, have it turn out badly, and end up ordering pizza to replace it. :)

your choco chip cookies looked really sumptuous! so i guess it's all right to do a little cooking and a little baking. i try to do the easy recipes (especially the ones with few ingredients) because i don't want to be intimidated or disappointed if my cooking turns out bad (which does happen). so maybe a little at a time and you'll get the hang of it! =D
