I recently read in a Reader's Digest article that one should always flush the toilet with the lid closed. Why? Because bacteria (from the flushing action) could be deposited (read this) 6 FEET from the toilet!! That was so gross it gave me the shivers! And after I read the article, I proceeded to the bathroom and lysol-ed the whole floor and toilet seat. It's safe to say that I pretty much emptied the whole can.
Isn't that just disturbing? Until now, I can't get the ick factor out of my system. Everytime I step into the bathroom I feel like there are thousands of bacteria on the soles of my feet. So I use bathroom slippers now. The very idea is just too gross for me. I still can't get the thought of floating bacteria settling on the bathroom floor out of my head. Okay, I know, I'm bordering on paranoia but after studying microbiology in college (remember that, Mio? =D) I think I am entitled to be paranoid. Yuck yuck yucky!
Might have to buy more lysol tomorrow. Maybe several bottles.
So. gross.

Urk! The first time I read about that thing, it said something about not putting toothbrushes near the toilet, or to at least have the toothbrushes covered daw. But, yeah, same principle. Kadiri talaga. I immediately disposed of my toothbrush and got another one with a brush cap. But recently, I saw in an episode of Mythbusters, they tried proving (or disproving) that myth. Although it was true daw, that aerosolized particles after flushing does travel, it has got to be so small the bacteria it contains is almost negligible and the bigger droplets almost doesn't go anywhere. And the bacteria that they found on the toothbrushes were found in the control group din. Still I am not leaving my toothbrushes uncapped in the open!
But get this pala, they took swabs of different areas of a regular house and made cultures out of them....believe it or not, the kitchen is dirtier that the toilet, toilet seats, and bathroom floors. I swear, after that, I was wiping with Lysol in the kitchen everyday!
And, ahhhh....memories of MicroBio. Isa lang ata unforgettable dun for me. Remember that time when Jong was sleeping in class, tapos he tried sneaking out but found out the door was locked? I was laughing because of that but I told the teacher it was because the drawing looked like an eye when she asked me. Animal na Jong yun, nag-comment pa. Hindi naman daw. I still laugh about that now.
i share the same sentiments. moms get to be paranoid when kids are involved. my daughter keeps requesting her share of privacy when she's in the bathroom but you never really know how clean it is.
hi mio! napanood ko na 'to sa discovery channel. yung The Undetectables series. ang gross talaga grabe. ick talaga!
miocrobio... haay. yung fond memory ko talaga was when i dozed off in the middle of an exam! kasi that day 4 yung exams natin tapos antok na antok ako kasi after lunch yung microbio natin di ba? hehehe. di talaga ako makapaniwala na nakatulog ako in the middle of answering the questions. grabe!
you're right, mommy chi! as mommies, we always are so concerned about our kids' welfare. =D
take care!
