ANOTHER FRIDAY

I finally finished reading my book, Mr. Monk and the Blue Flu last night. All our activities have distracted me from finishing it in normal (meaning 2 days') time. I still have a lot of books to read from the recent buy at Powerbooks. I think I'm going to start with the Julie Garwood one. Hopefully, it won't take me too long to finish reading it.

.....

Nikki has just recovered from another bout of sickness. He has had fever for the past few days and now he's just too thin, it worries me. I have to fatten him up but the problem is, he's very picky with his food. Some people might say that Nikki is too old to drink from the bottle but he's very nitpicky about drinking from a glass. When we tried that, he would just take several sips then stop completely. He just hates drinking from the glass. He even has a sippy cup but it's just the same. From drinking 6 bottles of milk a day, it dwindled to 2 bottles because he just didn't want to take his milk from a glass. His reason? "But I'm not big yet, Mommy. Only big people drink from the glass. I'm still small so I'll drink from the bottle." Of course we explain to him that he's a big boy and big boys drink from the glass but it's like talking to a wall. I don't know how to switch his milk-drinking from bottle to glass. Really. We've tried reasoning, explaining, cajoling, emulating, creative tactics, even buying different sippy cups and glasses, to no avail. Last week, we tried to be more firm but he would just not drink, never mind if he starved. And then he got sick. I felt so guilty. I think because of his lack of milk intake his body just became weak. And now he's so thin. I could hit myself on the head for this. I really really think that because of this change, he just lost nutrients. It's not like he eats a lot during mealtimes. He eats like a bird, for goodness' sake! So now, I'm in a bind. I want to completely wean Nikki from the bottle but I don't want him to get sick in the process. So for now, we're reched a stalemate. Until he learns to eat full meals everytime, I won't cut off his milk supply yet. Sigh. My poor baby...

How about with a straw? That worked with Dallas and Aeon. They didn't like the sippy cups, but I was able to convince them to switch to a straw. Also, why don't you try weaning Ethan first? Given their personalities, it might work with Ethan, and then you can convince Nikki that Ethan is younger, but already he drinks from a glass (albeit with a straw), then maybe Nikki would follow suit?
