JEHOVAHS AT OUR DOOR

We have been regularly visited by members of the Jehovah's group and frankly, it's starting to irk Ruther and me. Well, mostly me, because I'm home most of the time and I answer the door. They come visit (usually in pairs) and offer some brochures. Sometimes, they want you to read a passage in the Bible or have a question and answer exchange about religion. They even ask for our phone number so they could continue the Bible session. Another thing is that they speak Tagalog which makes it even harder to shoo them away. Don't get me wrong, I know they are good people and only want to spread the Word, but well, I have no intention of changing my religion (neither does Ruther, he says) or of being disturbed when doing chores at home or when I'm spending time with the boys or when I'm having my bath. It peeves me when I get interrupted in mid-work. Reeeeally gets to me. But I have no intention of being impolite to them. I just wish there was some way for them to understand that one visit from them is enough, that we are happy with our religion and that we no longer wish to be disturbed.

It's interesting that you think turning them away is rude because their constant (uninvited) interference in your life is what is actually rude. They aren't entitled to ring your doorbell on multiple occasions and interrupt your daily life.

The way I handle them on the rare occasions when I answer the door is that I tell them simply "I'm sorry, but I'm not interested." They never press me beyond that and it's not a rude thing to say. It's also the truth. Next time, you might want to give it a try.

thanks for sharing this. i actually DO have a hard time saying "no" to people which makes it so much harder to decline things. i guess i have to try harder next time. but hopefully they won't come knocking any more. i wish!

thanks again!
