RESTLESS
.....
Since I'm done reading all the Twilight books, I'm feeling pretty restless now. It's not that I'm not doing anything because with the homeschooling and reading my photography book and reviewing my Nihongo, I'm pretty much still "busy" but somehow, after all the cleaning and preparations we did for our visitors these past days I feel as though I'm not doing too much. I know, I'm being silly again but maybe it's also because I've gotten so used to having my schedule around Ruther that it seems like I'm not doing enough. Do I even make sense? Okay, I'll shut up now.
.....
My mom text messaged me the other day asking me when we were planning to come back to Manila. And with that message she hinted, "April 25?" I was like, "WHAAAT?" That's so late! I thought we were going to be in Zamboanga for only a month or so but I didn't we think were gonna be there that long! So I was like, "No, schedule us for the 18th". That's a week earlier. I figured a month and a half wouldn't be so bad as long as we keep ourselves busy there. Plus, I felt a teensy bit guilty about not visiting them last year. So I told Ruther we would be there from March 2 til April 18. Then after that, we'll begin our application for Japan. So for now I'll think about that and just make that my focus for the next few weeks...

SWEETHEARTS
HAPPY HEARTS DAY
.....
Ruther greeted me last night. I really miss him. It's so much harder for me to be away from him right now for so many reasons. I really wish we didn't have to be apart right now. I just feel utterly alone. Sigh.
Sorry for being so emotional and sappy right now...
.....
Ruther's relatives from Australia will be arriving tonight. I'm sure it'll be another fun reunion for everyone. I'm really looking forward to seeing all of them. I remember blogging about Tita Nicki last year when she was here in the Philippines for a teaching stint. I really love talking to her. She is so smart and very insightful. She is open-minded and never judges people even if their opinions differ from hers. She is Australian but she has come to love the Filipino way of life as well. Tito Leo (Mama's brother) is such a fun guy. He reminds me of my dad who is fun-loving, happy and cheerful all the time. Natasha (or Tasha) is so sweet and loves books a lot. She loves to write as well. Her older sis Marissa will be arriving later on since she will be flying from New York. Marissa is a singer and has played Gabriella in Disney's High School Musical in Australia. I am quite proud of her. She has also several albums to her name. She is so talented. Anyway, I can't wait to see all of them. It's just too bad that Ruther isn't here right now to join the reunion.

SHORT
Well, here's a photo of me with my short hair. I know it's not a close-up shot but at least you have an idea on the length. Again, short is relative. What may be short for some may not be for others. This is short for me. Anyway, I promise once I get a photo with my hair all nice and fixed I'll post another pic. :)

VAMPIRES AND MORE
I just finished reading Breaking Dawn and I must say, once you get over the first book (Twilight), the rest of the books just get better and better. My favorite is the last book because of revelations, resolutions and well, everything coming together I must say. After reading the entire story, I'm now thinking of getting the second, third and fourth book for my collection. My sis gave me the first book last year. I like the writing style and tone of Stephanie Meyer. It's easy to read, the emotions are real and she has a very creative imagination. Hopefully, she will be writing more books in the future, vampire or no vampire.
.....
I read in the newspapers the other day that short hair is the in thing this year. Well, at least I'm keeping up with the latest fad. My hair is starting to feel a bit longer though. I'm thinking of getting a trim in the next 2 weeks to keep my hair as short as it is. I still don't know when I'm going to start growing it long but for the moment, I'm happy to keep it this short. And oh yeah, I forgot about posting my photo. Again. Will do that after I post this...
.....
Afternoons in my room is absolutely wonderful. After the noon sun has gone down a bit, the wind coming through the window is really refreshing. I usually leave the windows open at this time so the breeze could come through unhindered by the wire screen. The boys usually nap in my room (because of the cool breeze and to save electricity - we would be using 2 fans if we were in separate rooms) and I usually like the quiet and the wind while I'm in bed reading a book or listening to some music on the laptop. I just love the breeze, the calm, the relaxing tropical atmosphere. Now, if only Ruther were here, this would be perfect.

DEJA VU
But then again, there is something really peaceful with the hushed atmosphere at this hour. I could hear all my thoughts, I could focus on what I have to do today, and I could do whatever I want at this time (like blog) without the boys interrupting me every few minutes. So yeah, this seems like a blessing in disguise.
Now, if you look at it at a more creepy level, maybe a ghost is waking me up for 2 nights now. Maybe something sinister in the shadows tapped into my subconscious and dragged me from peaceful slumber to keep it company until the wee hours of the morning. Possible? Naaaaah.
Anyway, if you look at it at a more romantic level, perhaps Ruther is dreaming of me (and still is at this time) and the intensity of his dreams affected my subconscious mind and rocked me awake. Isn't that sweet? Well, I wish. He's most probably snoring away right now without a care in the world. But I'll still ask him if he dreamed of me. As if he'd remember come morning.
Okay, I know I'm just rambling but this waking up thing at 3am is starting to bug me. I'm sure it's gonna ruin my internal clock and then it'll get my system out of whack and I'm pretty sure by noon today I'll be all sleepy again. Sigh.
Maybe I miss Ruther.

MY FOOTPRINT
3AM
.....
So, did you catch the lunar eclipse last night? We tried to. We were on the roof at 845pm waiting for the change but the cloudy night just ruined the whole experience. We did take some photos of the full moon but around 915pm, it was all clouds so we went back in the house. After that we pretty much called it a night. So much for that.
.....
Due to parental pressure, I was guilt-tripped into bringing the boys home to Zamboanga next month to visit my mom and dad. My mom was text messaging me like, "So, you should get your promo tickets now because you might not have a chance to get early reservations." See how she phrased that? A subtle command. Not "So, when are you visiting?" or "Are you coming with the boys for a vacation?" Trust my mom to know exactly what to say. Anyway, it's not like I could just say no. We did not go home at all last year and my dad really misses the boys. Plus, my parents slyly told me that all I had to do was shoulder the fare going there and they would handle our return tickets. If that's not a bribe then I don't know what is. :) But I'm sure they are so excited to have the boys there. Especially my dad who had them for only a fraction last year when we went to Baguio. So yeah, I'm sure they will be ecstatic to have the boys noisy up the house in Zamboanga and maybe drive them a little crazy now and then. Anyway, we're leaving on March 2, a Monday. We can't leave earlier than that because there's a family reunion scheduled at the end of the month (Ruther's side of the family) and we have to attend. Also, some of Ruther's relatives from Cebu and Australia will be flying in for the occasion so we have to be here for all the bonding that's going to happen for sure. So the next few days might be pretty hectic for us. Gotta be prepared.
For now I think it's time I get some coffee. Good morning!

RANDOM THOUGHTS
And uh no, I'm not talking about Prozac.
.....
Now that we're back in Manila I get to eat the food I missed munching on in Japan. Of course, I have to eat in moderation or I just know I would get unbelievably fat (again). Right now, I am enjoying the mangoes. I love those ripe yellow mangoes. They are my favorite fruit! If I wasn't so scared of getting diabetes I would probably be eating them everyday. They are still a bit expensive right now at P65-60 a kilo but I know that when summer is here it'll be a whole lot cheaper. Looking forward to all those yummy mango shakes. Mmmmmm...
.....
I am just about to begin reading Breaking Dawn, the 4th book of the Twilight series. The second and third books were okay. I mean, at least they kept me on my toes and left me wondering about what would happen next. I like stories like that, when every chapter would have me begging for more. Anyway, it would be interesting to find out how Bella and Edward resolve the "being together forever" issue. Also, I read in another friend's blog that Dakota Fanning might play Jane in the movie. I think that would be great!! I would rather she play Alice (because Jane's evil and Alice isn't) but well, I'm just glad she'll be in the movie because I'm a huge Dakota fan. So yay! Looking forward to watching the flicks. Already missed the Twilight movie so I gotta watch that first.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUTHER!
Anyway, I still hope that Ruther spends his day well and that he's happy today. He already got my birthday present yesterday so that's a relief. I spoke to him this morning and greeted him again (already did last night) but we will be chatting again tonight for sure. Miss you baby! Happy birthday!
.....
I can't believe how expensive kids' clothes are these days. We went to the mall yesterday because I had to look for green polo shirts for the boys for an upcoming family reunion. I spied a nice green one and when I checked the tag, it was around P450!! Atrocious! Not even my shirts and blouses cost that much! And for goodness' sake, the boys will be wearing the shirt for a few months and outgrow them so why should I spend so much on a shirt that's not gonna last forever right? Sigh. Do I sound stingy? Well, it's just that I can't believe a small piece of clothing would cost more than MY clothes! It's just absurd! Now, if I were a millionaire then spending for those polo shirts would be no problem at all but well, in my present situation, just even considering buying those shirts is already a pain. Oh well, I suppose I have to do more searching in the next few days because I presently still feel disgruntled about the price of those shirts.
.....
Now that I have short hair I finally get to experience having a "bed head". Having long hair almost all my life spared me from such an experience but now that my hair lies above my shoulders, it's so interesting to see what hairstyle I sport the moment I get out of bed. The other day I thought the top of my hair could not get any higher and this morning it looked like I slept on my left side the entire night. It was pretty funny. I'm thinking of taking a photo of my "bed head" look every morning but knowing how terrible I'll look, I guess it's just as well that I skip it and just leave those wacky hairstyles photographed in my head.

HUNDRED ISLANDS
About Hundred Islands:
http://www.worldisround.com/articles/25669/text.html
Hundred Islands National Park
Because of its special characteristics, scientific importance, uniqueness and high scenic value, the national committee on geograpical sciences declared the hundred islands of Pangasinan as a national geological monument last Sept. 2001.
The hundred islands of Pangasinan were shaped from uplifted coral deposits by the erosional action of rainwater and groundwater. These islands clustered in the lingayen gulf northeast of Alaminos consists of 123 hills of different sizes.
To get there, take a bus from Manila to Alaminos, Pangasinan, 254 kms about five hours. From Alaminos take a tricycle ride to Barangay Lucap, fare about Php 20-30 (around USD 0.60), check the current rate in nearby store before boarding and have the right change, pay when you arrive, go to PTA tourist office and they will help you to get a cheaper banca ride to explore the islands or rent a guest house.
SORRY...AGAIN
I'm sorry for disappearing again. Aside from being quite depressed from leaving Japan weeks ago, the boys and I had to spend time/bond with Ruther before he left again (for Japan of course) last Saturday. He was only in Manila for 2 weeks so you can only imagine the schedule we had those past few days. Anyway, I'm back and I'm blogging and I'm sorry I disappeared for so long. Hopefully next time, it won't take me weeks to blog and to catch up with all your wonderful stories.
.....
First things first. I got a haircut. A short one. Well, "short" is relative I suppose but having had long hair since childhood, my current haircut is indeed short. Nope, it's not the haircut I had last New Year. I got an improved cut. I was kind of worried how it would turn out because I've always had issues with my round face and chubbiness but in the end, I kind of like it. It somehow makes my face a bit less chubby. And any haircut that does that is fine in my book. So yeah, glad to get the haircut and now I feel like 2009 is starting out swell (aside from Ruther leaving, of course). And now, I can cross out "get short haircut" from my ___ Things to Do Before I Die list. Will post a photo of my new haircut soon. Just remind me in case I forget. Again.
.....
Ever since Ruther left I've been cleaning like crazy! Since our room was uninhabited for 6 months, I had to make sure I got rid off all dustballs and cobwebs. It took some time actually. What really irked me though were ants. A lot of ants in our room. Whenever I would spray some insecticide on their trail, after a few days they would make another. Argh! Infuriating. Kinda made me miss Japan all the more since we never had any pest problem. At all! Anyway, I just finished cleaning and fixing things up yesterday (not to mention all the unpacking I had to do as well) so now I could breathe again. And now I could blog again. Hurrah!
.....
I have some sort-of good news. Ruther and I talked a few weeks ago and we're considering getting a dependent's visa for the boys and me the next time we go to Japan (which Ruther wants to be soon). This is good news because this means, we won't be limited to a 6-month stay in Japan. This means, we could stay in Japan for as long as Ruther will be working there. Isn't that wonderful? So now, we're trying to review all the things we need to do to accomplish this. I'm hoping that everything will turn out all right and that my family will be reunited soon. I can't wait for this to happen. It's like my dream of finally living permanently together as a family is coming true. I know I'm being all gooey and anticipatory but I'm just really excited. Of course we have to save and plan and all that but I just know that we could handle anything as long as we're together and as long as God is present in our plans. So yeah, I'm feeling positive about 2009. Ruther said it's going to be OUR year and I hope in my heart he's right.

Our New Year photo
NEW YEAR
.....
Anyway, we're going home. We're leaving Japan tomorrow. Can you believe it? I can't. And I sure as hell want to stay here. Not because I don't want to go back home to the Philippines but because I don't want my family to be apart again. I know, I know. Same sad story. Boohoo. But well, it's the truth. Tomorrow, we'll be back in Manila and I'll be terribly sad to leave this country and I wish my visa had no expiration date at all. I suppose the only good thing about going home is that Ruther will be coming home with us. I guess I have to see that as the silver lining here. Ruther did say that we'll be applying for dependent's visa for us the next time we try to come back to Japan and I sure hope that that's gonna happen because I really really want to come back here and stay for more than just 6 months. Plus, I want to work too, so I hope and pray that everything will work out for us this year when we apply. For now, I guess we just have to stay positive, do our best and pray pray pray.
.....
I don't want to do the whole resolutions stuff this year, which is surprising for me. A lot of things happened in 2008 which affected me (good and bad) that my eyes were opened to a bigger picture (it's like waking up for the first time) and I know I just have to focus my energies in doing what I do best: being a good mom, wife and teacher to my homeschooling kids. If I accomplish (and maintain) that by the end of the year, then I know that my 2009 will be a successful year.
.....
Facing 2009 is counting a lot of fears in my heart. I want to be hopeful but I don't want to be disappointed again. I want to hold on to that promise but at the same time, I am just scared of being hurt again. I know, I am once more speaking in riddles but well, I'm not one to air personal things in cyberspace, ya know. Again, just not me. I just hope with all my heart that the pain I feel in my heart will ease up, the disappointment fades a bit and I could once more look at the sun and not be blinded by it. I just hope that 2009 will be a fun, happy, loving year for me.
Is that too much to ask, you think? Well, I sincerely hope not.
