ANOTHER SCHOOL SHOOTING

A 17-year-old boy was shot to death by a fellow student in a public school in Tacoma (New York Times website). This news alarmed me. I mean, how many deaths in school have I read in the past years? I think this is becoming commonplace. And that is what worries all parents like me. It seems like schools are no longer second homes for our children. I suppose, this is why the idea of homeschooling kids has become even more popular because of violence like this. Really, this is just sad... =(

I think stories like this reinforce my decision to homeschool my boys even more. I mean, sure, in the Philippines, school shootings rarely happen but still, I think the best education for my boys for now is at home with me and Ruther. With the many advantages of having a one-on-one schooling with the boys at home, I know my sons can grow more fully and develop their love for learning even more then if we send them to school immediately. I could see how much my boys have learned these past years and I love it when I see them learning on their own and not being forced to go to school and be told what to do every single day. I hope that one day, when they decide to enter school, they will be prepared and the world will be safer.

I can only hope...
