THE LITTLE BLUE BASIN

The boys and I were walking to the supermarket a few weeks ago when we saw a small blue basin by the sidewalk. It was partially hidden among some grass and a fence and if it were not for its blue color, we would have missed it. Curious, I checked to see if it was broken but amazingly, it was whole. Sure, it was a bit muddy and a bit scratched but there were no cracks; not even a chip or dent on it. I thought to myself, "Who would throw a perfectly usable basin?" It really was a surprise because back home in the Philippines, no one in their right mind would throw away anything until it was either ready for the trash (and I mean trash) or was 100% unusable. I put the basin back in the weeds and thought that if it would still be lying there when we got back from the supermarket, I'll bring it home. Sure enough, it was still there so I carefully put the muddy thing (it rained the day before) in a plastic bag and when we got home, I washed it. The little blue basin now has a home. It has certainly served its purpose here. The boys use it when they play in the bath, I use it for some household chores and sometimes, I store some clothespins in it. I think it's wonderful to find some old handy trash and turn those into fun, usable things, don't you? =D

I am the same way, and would have picked the bowl up as well. What a good find you made!
