HEAT VS. COLD

Some people may call me crazy but I really miss the Philippine heat. Sure, it can be sweltering, annoying and irritating but at least you can remedy that with a bowl of halo-halo or a cold bath or a slurpee or a visit to the air-conditioned mall. Here, it gets so uncomfortable sometimes. At night, I can't sleep properly. I get rashes from the cold and itch all night. I'm running out of antihistamine tablets. I can't get comfy because my feet get too cold and my upper body is too warm. It's like a losing battle. I can't get warm enough or it's too cold. It's just like Goldilocks and the Three Bears with too cold, too hot and just right. Only, in my case, I can't seem to get the "just right" just right.

In the Philippines, even if it gets too warm in the summer, it's nothing an air conditioning unit can't fix. At least I can regulate that. Besides you can always go with shorts and a sleeveless tee when in the room. After the summer, it gets pleasant with the rains and the cool air. I especially love the cool December mornings back home in Zamboanga. Perfect jacket weather. I'm thinking, the moment I get back to Manila, I'm going to hit the beach right away. Mommy and Daddy are already urging me to go home to Zamboanga the moment we arrive in February so I suppose the boys and I will be spending the summer at the beach. Well, I really hope so.

The sun seems to be my only source of heat here. The heater in the room barely warms the entire place and once i get into the kitchen, it's cold feet once again. Since we can't very well leave the heater on the whole day (or night), it's back to warm clothes again.

It's not so bad though. I mean, it IS winter so it should be cold. I guess I'm just not used to it. But it's nice for warm cuddles and hot chocolate. It's just difficult to appreciate the cold weather when you have allergies and itch all over or have cold feet that does not seem to warm up at all (even when I wear socks). But don't get me wrong. I still appreciate the experience. It's not an entirely enjoyable one but it's all right. After all, even if I do have a warm soul, it is a hardy one at that. So, I'll just have to grin and bear it and hope that when I go back home, I'm not a frozen icicle.

Lae, remedy the itching with heavier cream lotions. Malamig lang mag-apply, pero it works a lot better than the lighter lotions you might be used to from the Philippines. As for the cold feet in bed, get a hot/cold water bag (the rubber ones work best, i think), fill with very hot water (thank God for hot tap!), and put it on the bed towards where your feet are. It doesn't make the bed really toasty, but at least it wouldn't be as cold.
